about
Poinsettia Power is about following your heart and using your gifts to help others, groovin to a light ska beat. Much respect to people and music stemming from Africa. All proceeds of this song support Indigenous youth creative arts projects.
"Poinsettia Power has its origin in the folktale of a young girl who had no gifts to offer to Jesus on Christmas. She managed to pick some nearby weeds and rushed to the celebration. Of course, the girl was teased by her peers for only bringing a handful of seemingly plain weeds to give to Christ. However, as the celebration went on, the weeds bloomed into the beautiful crimson stars we all know as poinsettia. This song shares the sentiment of the old folk tale, it doesn’t matter what your thing is, it just matters that you bring it."
There was a flower, it had so much power
Growing in the desert like a weed.
Now you might think that your gift it ain't enough
Or we worry that our money can't buy enough stuff.
It doesn't matter what your thing is,
It just matters that you bring it.
Poinsettia Power sing it with me.
There is a flower, it has so much power,
El flor del fuego de navidad.
Growing rare here in the northern hemisphere,
It's a beautiful radiant gift everywhere.
It doesn't matter what your thing is,
It just matters that you bring it.
Poinsettia Power sing it with me.
Looking all around you might think that everyone's shining,
And you don't see how your light is gonna grow.
It feels like you've got nothing,
But in fact you've got it all.
Oh take a wander in the woods of life
Oh take a wander in the woods of life
Oh take a wander in the woods of life
And listen to the sages and heed their wisdom call
It doesn't matter what your thing is,
It just matters that you bring it.
